I have been an avid backgammon player for over a decade playing on the Internet, in ABT tournaments around the country and occasionally in a club setting. I consider myself an intermediate/advanced level player. In June of 2006 I moved to Cincinnati from Providence, Rhode Island and during that transition period I put my backgammon playing on hold. Once settled in I began looking into local backgammon clubs. The only local club I found was the Queen City Backgammon Club which was defunct but after meeting with several players from Dayton and Cincinnati I knew there was a great interest in gathering a group of players together on a regular basis in the Cincinnati area. That is what led me to found the Cincinnati Backgammon Players Club.

Within this web site are my ideas for the club including tournaments formats and a master point system. Having run the club for a year now new ideas are welcome and appreciated. Besides getting together for tournament play I hope playing matches, chouettes and backgammon discussion would be a part of our regular meetings.

Thanks to Regina, the club co-founder, and Elina, Metropole’s proprietor, we have a venue to play at, Metropole Coffee Company located in Sharonville. There is ample room to play comfortably, enjoy a great cup of coffee and relax.

Under the tournament rules you will find several formats which are dependent upon the number of players in attendance. In most cases a true double elimination format will be adhered to with lesser point matches when there is a large field of players so tournaments can be concluded in a reasonable amount of time.

In closing I want to express my thanks in advance for the interest shown in this club. As members we should promote the club and seek out new players. There is no limit on how successful this organization can be and how much we can achieve, I look forward to those achievements.

Sincerely,
Peter
