The Southwest Ohio Summer Solstice Backgammon Tournament
hosted by the Miami Valley Backgammon & Cincinnati Backgammon Players Club
 Who: Backgammon players of all levels are welcome.
What: Two double elimination tournaments – championship and limited (novice) divisions plus an ongoing blitz event throughout the day. The entry fee for the championship division is $45.00 prior to June 1st $50.00 afterwards, the limited division $10.00 and blitz event entries are $10.00 with 50% going to each individual blitz winner and 50% going to a winner take all blitz finale. The return is 90% in championship division, 100% in limited and the winner in each division will be awarded a trophy. A $15.00 side pool will be offered in the championship division with a 100% return. All fees paid on the 14th must be cash.

When: Saturday June 14, 2008 - registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the tournaments starting at 11:30 sharp.
Why: To enjoy a day of playing backgammon and to match wits with some of the best backgammon players in all of southwest Ohio and the tri-state area.

 The tournaments will be true double elimination format. All matches will be abiding by the ABT / U.S.B.L playing rules (rules will be on hand at the tournament). All main bracket matches are 7 pointers and consolation matches 5 pointers. The once defeated consolation winners must beat the main flight winners twice to claim top prize, should a second game be required it will be played as a consolation game, a 5 point match.
Blitz events will be 2 point knockout matches played in groups of 4 players. The entry fee per blitz is $10.00 and the winner of each group of 4 wins $20.00 and will advance to the final blitz event of the day in a winner take all tournament consisting of 3 point matches. Entry into the blitz matches is unlimited, a player may sign up as often as they like. In the event a player is paired against them self in the blitz finale a bye will be awarded to the next round.
Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the tournaments beginning at 11:30 sharp. Prizes will be split 60% - 40% between the finalists in each division. Each player is guaranteed at least two matches. The championship division side pool will be paid to the side pool participant who advances furthest in the main bracket, provided he or she advances at least to the main bracket final match. If neither of the main bracket finalists is in the side pool, then the side pool goes to the side pool participant who advances furthest in the consolation bracket.
Prior to the start of the tournament bagels w/cream cheese and coffee will be served, soft drinks and snacks throughout the day will be available and pizza from Donato’s will be served during an afternoon break from 2:30-3:15. The food service fee is $5.00, please indicate when registering if you are interested.
